Rose Gold Information

 Gold Facts

Gold is measured in karats- pure gold is the equivalent of 24 karats. However as pure gold is very soft it is difficult to use in making jewelry so it has to be mixed with copper, zinc, silver or nickel. This will increase its durability and strength.
Once the alloy is included the common measurements are:
18 Karat   which is   75% gold    (European mark 750)
14 Karat       **         58% gold    (European mark 585)
10 Karat       **         47.7% gold (European mark 417)
The lowest legal karat limit in the U.S. for the metal to be classified as gold is 10 karats. So the higher the karat measure the more value the product should have.
Every piece of gold jewelry should not only be impressed with the appropriate karat mark but to guarantee its quality it should also have the country of origin and the manufacturer's trademark stamped somewhere.

The color of gold will depend on the type and percentage of metal alloy used but most gold will be available in yellow, white or rose.
Yellow   =  mixed with copper and silver.
White    =         **         copper, zinc and nickel
Rose     =        **          copper
Yellow and white are very similar in adaptability and strength which make them ideal for jewlery that is worn every day.
White gold looks very much like platinum but have a very different makeup.
Rose gold is used on many occasions to accentuate yellow or white gold. The actual color will vary according to the gold content.
Taking Care of your Gold Jewelry
We would all like to keep our gold jewelry in the best possible condition. However this takes care and attention.

You need to keep them away from chlorine and other harsh chemicals. If you are engaged in heavy rough work it would be better to store your jewelry in a pouch or box. It is not complicated to keep your gold jewelry looking nice and clean-simply use a mild soap, warm water and a soft bristled brush.

Conflict Diamonds

Conflict diamonds – also known as blood diamonds – are diamonds that are used to fuel violent conflict and human rights abuses. They have funded brutal wars in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Côte d’Ivoire that have resulted in the death and displacement of millions of people. Diamonds have also been used by terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda to finance their activities and for money-laundering purposes.

Blood diamond

A blood diamond (also called a conflict diamond, converted diamond, hot diamond, or war diamond) is a term used for a diamond mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency, an invading army's war efforts, or a warlord's activity. The term is used to highlight the negative consequences of the diamond trade in certain areas, or to label an individual diamond as having come from such an area. Diamonds mined during the recent civil wars in Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and other nations have been given the label. The term conflict minerals refers to analogous situations involving other gems.
